I AM A MOTHER…..I HATE BUGS…..LIP GLOSS IS MY BEST FRIEND…..MOST OF MY CLOTHES SPARKLE…..I DYED MY HAIR WITH RED KOOL AID AS A KID……….REHABBING HOUSES IS MY THING…..www.UrbanGlamSociety.com IS ALL ME…….I WOOSAAAA WHEN SEWING…..HIGH HEELS MAKE ME DROOL 🙂
Having lived in 5 major cites in the past 20 years, I have tons of material to blog about. I have led, “what I would like to believe” a fulfilling life surrounded by family and friends (characters) who make up a true reality series that if put on tv would kill with off the chart ratings. I swear these people are comedians who have missed their calling, but have somehow found me, linked up with my spirit, weaseled their way into my heart while binding us at the hip until “forever” whether they like it or not….Lucky Them!
Well here goes…….I have my Caribbean family members from Antigua, who I like to call, to their faces, the “Adams Family”(go figure), my true home girls from high school, my college besties from Howard University, plus a crew of additional special people who all contribute to a big ole gumbo pot of laughter, memorable moments, over the top conversations and often time even tears.
Ummmm, did I mention that I have an adolescent, part-time jokester 13 year old son who thinks he’s my husband and father? Yup that’s Nasir, the same kid who as a toddler said he’s “electric to hugs” when really trying to say “I’m allergic to hugs”….either way still hilarious! Also the same little ruffian, who at 7 would always look back to see if the strange man we just walked past on the street was turning around for a second look at his mom’s butt prompting him to put up his tiny little balled-up fist in the air to say “Mister, I will knock your lights out!”….true story.
Day to day, I lead a pretty basic existence. Like most, I’m constantly in self improvement mode! Searching for my true calling, mind mapping my future, bewildered by why I can’t lose a damn pound at 42, googling how to re-charge my Chi, all while figuring out the social calendar of a girl crazy son is beyond exhausting. The balancing act is nuts, but thank goodness God made me a very talented craftster who can sew, crochet, design, and make things with my hands that keep me distracted from all the madness.
Enough rambling from me so If you’ve gotten this far, obviously my writing isn’t a bore and maybe we just may have something here…..So as I set out on this blogging trek, I have no idea where I’ll end up, what my “blogging” voice will become, who my online friend-followers will be, what I’ll learn along the way, and how I’ll become enriched by this journey while broadening my scope of this AMAZING thing we call Life.
